Hurricane Irma Update

The Mission is opening its doors to hurricane evacuees starting at noon Saturday. Between our Men’s Home and Family Home, we’re prepared to welcome more than 200 extra guests, in addition to the men, women, and children we already serve.

As a friend of the Mission, there are several ways you can help us serve our struggling neighbors during this crisis:

  • Give financially: It costs $26.82 to provide a day of shelter, food and care for one person. Your gift today will help us meet this increased need. Please consider making a generous gift using the button below, or by texting MissionIrma to 41444.

  • Volunteer: We are fully staffed for the hurricane, but we will need assistance in the coming days during the aftermath. If you’ve volunteered in the past, please contact volunteer coordinator Sharlene Stanford and she'll schedule a time for you to help. If you’re a first-time volunteer, complete and return the Volunteer Ministry Application, and we’ll get you scheduled. (see below)

  • Donate items: We're seeking donations of bedding items (blankets, pillows, air mattresses), as well as new blankets and towels for use by emergency shelter guests. We also can use bottled water and non-perishable food. Items can be dropped off at the Mission’s Family Home, 1525 W. Washington St.

  • Pray: Most importantly, please pray for the hundreds of men, women, and children we will serve, along with the rest of our community. Pray that everyone who comes to us will be shown the love of Christ while having their immediate needs met.

While it’s uncertain just how hard we’ll be hit by Irma, please take comfort in knowing that God is in control. Thank you for your support of the Mission.
