Summary: The Community Relations Specialist will proactively build relationships and engage local/national media and the community by sharing about Orlando’s Union Rescue Mission’s (OURM’s) work through news/press coverage, mission fairs, speaking engagements and other public relations tools and events. In addition, the Community Relations Specialist will gain sponsorships throughout and beyond the Central Florida community. He/she will also work closely with the Volunteer Services Coordinator with various projects that require collecting gift-in kind materials or community sponsorships and partnerships, along with assistance in rebranding the Orlando Union Rescue Mission.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Respond to requests for information from the media and/or designate spokesperson or information source, when appropriate
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with representatives of media
  • Locate local and national publicity opportunities and coordinate production of corresponding promotional pieces
  • Cultivate relationships with news media and high-profile Central Floridians to encourage partnership with OURM through prayer support, volunteer service, gift-in-kind drives and financial contributions
  • Identify and gain sponsorship opportunities for OURM special events
  • Arrange speaking engagements or mission fair exhibits to increase community awareness of OURM
  • Secure and serve as main contact for event chairman/sponsors/VIPs for special events
  • Proactively compose and distribute media releases for newsworthy stories and develop additional written materials including press kits (personnel biographies, company history, fact sheet), selected website content and event listings for community calendars
  • Create, solicit and maintain OURM endorsement files
  • Maintain and proactively cultivate middle donor and corporate donor portfolio- encouraging increased financial support.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations/communications or related experience
  • Must have at least 4 years of public relations/communications experience
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent word processing software knowledge and skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Professional, goal oriented, creative, self-starter
  • Must be a team player
  • Must have the ability to organize and prioritize work
  • Must have an out-going personality
  • Must have the ability to interact effectively with the people and organizations
  • Must have good interpersonal skills
