Back On Their Feet – Angel’s Story

Angel Saffold and her four children had rented a rent-subsidized home for twelve years when her landlord sold the house and evicted the family. Because of the years-long waiting list for subsidized apartments, Angel was unable to find replacement housing she could afford, so they moved into a hotel for a short time and faced homelessness until her pastor suggested she apply to the Mission. They moved into the Family Home in November 2022 and adjusted to the structure and guidelines of the Discipleship Program. While at the Mission, “I came to see Christ more as a provider, a way maker. You become more appreciative of what He has given you when it’s taken away. Are you still going to trust Him when that happens?” She also learned about saving, paying bills, and budgeting money. Her son Emmanuel was mentored through the Boys to Men program. Today Angel works with Orlando Health in the Pulmonology Department. Her son Alahjiah works with people with disabilities, her daughter Alannah works at Universal, and Emmanuel is a middle school student. In March 2024, Angel finally became a homeowner, and she and her children moved into their own Habitat for Humanity house. Her advice for others is, “Stick with the program. The Mission provides so much information; let them pour into you. Think about your situation and grow from it. Get to know who Christ is. Throughout the whole time, He has been there guiding you.” Angel is thankful for the donors who made it all possible. “Thank you for your compassion in helping other people rise from a dark place. Your donations give them that lift to get back on their feet.”
