When her father passed away, Twyla and her three children had no place to live. “I had always seen this place and wondered what it was,” said Twyla, “so I looked it up on Google and checked it out to see if they could offer any assistance.” In June 2016 they came to the Mission, and a new life started for Twyla and her children, Kyeda, Kelyse, and Khaleel.
While at the Mission, Twyla grew in her faith in the Victorious Living Class and Bible study with Dwayne Arnet. “I learned more about God, who He is, and everything He provides for us. When in doubt, remember He cares for us, and cast all our burdens upon Him.” Twyla’s children began to read the Bible and memorize Bible verses after school with Mirta Herrera, volunteers helped with homework, and the children enjoyed arts and crafts, field trips, and making new friends.
Twyla earned her high school diploma in the Career Learning Center, participated in the Jobs Partnership Program, and studied at Mid Florida Tech, becoming a certified EMT. Yolanda Owens, her case manager, and Janice Roberson, Director of the Family Home, were especially helpful.
In August 2018, Twyla, ready to live on her own, left the Mission. In December 2022 she married her long-time friend, Dwayne Love. Today she works two jobs. In the morning she assists veterans and the elderly in a home health care program, and in the afternoons she works with Orlando Health as a mental health technician. Her goal is to further her education in patient care. Twyla is thankful for the donors and volunteers who made it possible, and now she herself is a donor, giving back regularly to the Mission to help others get a new start in life.
