Local Rescue Mission Asks For Help to Restore Souls of Central Florida’s Homeless

 In Press Releases

ORLANDO, FL– The Soles Restore Souls campaign is more than a shoe-drive, it’s a movement to restore dignity to homeless individuals that may feel less than worthy to receive help. The Orlando Union Rescue Mission (OURM) is seeking to collect 1,000 pairs of new or gently used sneakers to hand out to homeless individuals and those in the surrounding community for their upcoming Health Fair. OURM, in collaboration with the National Osteopathic Medical Association (NOMA) will be hosting the free community-wide event on Friday, October 16, 2015 from 3-7pm at the Mission’s Family Life Center gymnasium.

The Mission has extended its deadline for the shoe drive to October 12th in hopes of meeting their goal. OURM’s Community Relations Coordinator, Tanneka Guice says the Mission has received donations, but the need is still great. “We’re very grateful to the surrounding churches, businesses and organizations, that stepped in to donate sneakers, but we are asking the public to pitch in and help provide shoes for those in need.” Anyone interested in donating shoes can drop them off at OURM’s Administration office (1521 W. Washington St. Orlando, FL 32805), or call 407-422-4255 to learn more, or follow the progress online (www.ourm.org/healingheels), via social media #SolesRestoreSouls.
