Independence Day took on a whole new meaning for Sindi and her three children this year.

While the rest of Central Florida was enjoying backyard barbecues and fireworks, Sindi, son Lucas and daughters Casey and Marissa were preparing to move into their own apartment after nearly three years at O.U.R. Mission Home.

“It was a long time but we finally made it,” Sindi says. “I’ve never been on my own before and I couldn’t have done it without the Mission.”

During her time here, Sindi took accounting classes and served an internship in the Mission’s Finance Department. When a lack of transportation hindered her job search, she was given a 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse that was left to the Mission in an estate. It wasn’t long before she got a job as an administrative assistant at a homeowners association company, started saving her money and was able to move out.

“I’ll never forget the people here and all that the Mission did for us,” she says. “It’s a special place.”
